Who was Angela King? Her nick name is listed as Angie which reminds of the song Angie by the Rolling Stones. The name reminds also brings to mind Angela Bowie. Little is known about her, but I would think that being married to Eric Burdon (Spill the Wine) and leaving him for Jimi Hendrix, and later being murdered would qualify her as worthy of a Wikipedia Entry. She was originally dating Andy Summers who was a guitar player in The Animals which was Burdon’s original band, but always moving up to more famous musicians she moved up to Eric Burdon and then Jimi Hendrix which clearly did not work out as I don’t remember any links between them. The only sources given for Angela King on Wikipedia is an out of print Eric Burdon Biography, and there is no way I am going to pay big bucks to buy an out of print book. If it does not come to Kindle, I probably won’t ever read it.
Someone should write a book just about Angela King and not in terms of her being a footnote in someone else’s life. Steal my idea, and write one! Wikipedia claims she was murdered in 1996 by an ex-boyfriend, which reminded me of how Kiki who was in a relationship with Burroughs was murdered by another older man whom he was seeing when Burroughs went briefly back to the States. I will update this article if I find out anything more about Angie King.

I was in Perth and I spoke to her frequently between 1990 and 1992. I used to have a cafe with the family in Northbridge and she used to come out of the methadone clinic up the road and all the crew from that clinic came down and got coffee from us. After a while we got talking. I remember her two kids, Paris was the girl and Jet was the boy. My sister got to be her “comfort friend” at the cafe as she did the morning shift and they became really friendly. I remember Angie being really stoned-like from the addiction but really sweet. A sad affair as you could see in her eyes she was kind but life didnt treat her well. She told me stories of late 1960’s london parties and she came in one day with a album full of bvlack and whitre pictures and in one was the pic of her wedding and I could recognise at least half of them as they were famous musicians. She also told me that Miles davies hit on her …ha ha. She claims Angie by the stones was written about her but I never believed her…..all i remember was the endless cigarettes, the fat fingers from the addiction and her boyfriend (who I remember was younger than her) always falling asleep with the cigarettes lit. My sister was really sad when she found out she was knifed (it was 1992) and when she became pregnant and my nephew was born the following year she named him Jet. In her honour. I was in awe of her because she used to tell me all these stories about the 60’s and I was a young 22 year old impressed lad. When Marianne faithfull toured australia and stopped in perth I remember Angie telling me she went to say hello backstage.

Angie King was my dad’s cousin, she was married to Eric Burdon and my mother and father were at their wedding. I met her only once when my dad and I took her to the airport to leave for Australia. Her mother was Mavis my great aunt who was Anglo Indian and came to England with my grandmother and father when my father was 14 . I think the song Angie by the stones was written about her but some people say it was about Angie Bowie .

Angela King was my aunt. My mother Elizabeth’s younger sister. Her mother was Mavis. She had one brother, Aubrey King, who is also deceased. She had a massive impact on me as child and is very sadly missed. She leaves behind three children, all currently living in Australia. Very happy to discuss this with anyone who has sources of information about her.

Sad story, being so famous at one point then dying in obscurity without mention really. Good on you for trying to tell this woman’s story. Recreational Drugs are the scourge of humans. Nothing ends up like they sell it on TV or in the movies. Peace to all🙏🏻👍

You may want to read Kathy Etchingham’s biography. She mentions Angie a few times, including her downfall.

Yes, Perth, Western Australia, but I can’t say if that information posted is correct since I don’t know anything really other then what I found online about her. She just seemed interesting to me.

I had dealings with her in Perth the late 80’s early 90’s. I was a detective, she was in a bad way at the time. I remember she claimed to be Eric Burdon’s ex but I took that with a pinch of salt until we searched her house the first time and she had all the photos and memorabilia. Very sad to see what she’d become after flying so high.

You are right, I meant to say she was murdered in 1996 and I must have just reversed the numbers. Thank you for pointing this out to me.

I met someone who said she was Angie, in the early 80’s, in Fremantle, W. Australia. She had a London accent, could well have been of Indian heritage. She claimed she was married to Eric Burdon, and had a very young baby with her. She wasn’t doing well. This doesn’t fit with her being murdered in 1969, but maybe you got the numbers wrong! Do you know where she was killed?
Cheers, Trevor
